HI, I’m Julia, the new President of DURC. Where academic stuff is concerned I am a physiology graduate and a 4th year medical student, but away from that I can generally be spotted Munro-bagging or climbing. I have always been a keen walker, but learned to climb with the Club… a great move! When I am not playing in the mountains and crags of Scotland, I also represent the university at swimming and water polo.
Mike doesn't have much to say for himself yet!
Hi, I'm Iain. I am currently studying third year biology. I have been walking in the mountains for a good few years now, mostly in Scotland, but also in Northern England and the wonderful Norway. I am also a keen nature and landscape photographer, so if you see someone pointing a camera at an interesting plant or something, it will probably be me. When not doing any of that I can now be found at the climbing wall, having recently started, or watching football.
Hi, I am Lori. I am currently in my 3rd year of my accountancy degree. And no, accountants are most definately not all boring! I joined the club last year and learned to climb with them. During the summer I was away travelling around Asia and the Himilayas, absolutely amazing experience. Most weeks I can be found climbing and in the pub.
I'm responsible for maintaining and distributing the club kit. I enjoy climbing mountains by any means and hate all conventional ways of having fun, especially ceilidhs. In my spare time I collect Architecture degrees.
Ernest Hemingway once said “There are only three sports in life; mountain climbing, bull fighting, and motor racing; all others being games.” Then again, he also blew his own head off with a shotgun. Anyway, seeing as I have already mastered bull fighting and motor racing I thought I might give mountain climbing a go. I am a relatively new member of the club, joining last year when I moved to Dundee to start my PhD in Biochemistry (that's right, good-looking AND clever), and somehow got conned into being this year’s Social Sec. by Julia, sly fox that she is. Messing around on hills and rocks aside, my other interests include Mickey Coyles, Speedwells, Globe bar, Langs, Braes, Drouthies, Tally's, The Union, Fat Sam's, London, The Phoenix, The Nether Inn, Tickety Boo's, Yates, Private-Eyes, and picnics by the riverside where Mike (Vice-President) and me sing Kum-bah-yah make daisy chains for each other.
Hi there, I'm Andrew (the less attractive of the 2 minute sec's). I'm now in honours year of a Biology degree. Joined the club 2 years ago and had a great time ever since. Always loved walking but started climbing with the club last year, which is fast becoming an obsession, love bouldering. Usually found at the wall 2 or 3 times a week, always on wednesday nights before pub (nothing like a cold pint to sooth your climb-scorched hands). Aside from the club, i like playing "kick-around" football, basketball and throwing frisbee.
Hey I’m Eilidh, the less talented of the two minutes secs. I’m a direct product of the rucksack club, my mum and dad having met here way back in the day. I do a bit of climbing, and recently completed my nemesis route at avertical world, which made me happy J. I also enjoy having a slow plod around a hill or two, preferably when it’s sunny. Uni wise I’m a fourth year zoology student, pretty much like biology but waaaaaay better. I’m not averse to an alcoholic beverage or two (as illustrated by the photo), and can normally be found at the bar drinking (and being slagged off for drinking) some weird concoction involving southern comfort or archers, good times.
Hi I'm Jon. When I'm not working, doing DIY on my flat or trying to get a PhD I like to get outdoors as much as possible - Munro-bagging, mountaineering, skiing, cycling etc. Thankfully I get a bit more time to do this since stepping down from being Treasurer! There are even rumors that I have been seen climbing a few times. My immediate mountaineering aspirations are to get into ski-mountaineering and touring, and to do some more big mountain stuff in the Alps. Oh and when I get the odd minute, I also maintain the DURC website :)
(Honorary positions for 07/08 positions have yet to be decided)
The committee hold regular meetings to manage the club's affairs and make sure everything runs smoothly. Minutes of these meetings are available here and are also distributed via our announcements forum.
