DURC committee meeting, 22/01/08
Present: Andrew Gardner, Andrew Galbraith, Julia Capper, Iain Gordon, Mike Cunningham, Andrew Bowman, Eilidh McNab, Lori McArthur
Apologies: Jon Bowyer
1. Meets
1.1 Possible Glen Lichd replacement for the 9th of March: Ben Cruachan
1.2 Hut prices: do not pay for whole hut, pay per person (note that it is per person that prices are quoted in the books for the huts).
2. Burns Supper
We need an absolute minimum of 20 people for this to happen, without this number we will make too large a loss. If we do not 20 people signing up for it on Wednesday the committee will cancel it and cut our losses.
3. Finances
3.1 Enterprise claim
Nothing has been heard from either Enterprise or the SU about a claim concerning vandalism damage to a bus.
3.2 Bus funding from the SU
Julia will email SU to find out exactly to apply for a grant as they have not made it clear how to do this.
3.3 Winter Skills
Only received 4 places at the Winter Skills weekend (rather than the 6 we believed we were getting). Will refund the other 2 people asap.
4. Other events
4.1 Annual Dinner
No thoughts as of yet, possibly better relatively close to home (within a couple of hours) so some people could come just for the Saturday night. Newtonmore a possibility (village hall, reasonable food, spa facilities nearby!)
4.2 Avalanche lecture
Mid February the earliest this can happen, Mike will sort out for earliest possible date.
4.3 Winter skills lecture
Roger Wild can do either the end of January or early March. Possibility of a showing of the winter skills DVD next Tuesday.
5. Fresher’s Reps and Honorary VPs
Julia will ask those involved.
6. BUSA
Quite a bit of interest in this competition. Deadline 14th February. Must have 6 people for a team; plus 2 route judges. Julia will then apply for funding. Final numbers must be organised for 3rd February as this is when Julia’s away to Lochgilphead.
7. Roles and Responsibilities
Everyone must be clear on their duties, and not leave others to do their work.
8. Other matters
8.1 Pub Quiz in Braes to raise funds
19th of February a (very) provisional date, Julia will check availability with the management. Have a mountain round to make it more topical.
9. Gear store
Crampon straps looked at with possibility of getting some of them changed.
10. Saturday trips
More trips to climbing walls or outdoor ice climbing on Saturdays, as we have the bus for the whole weekend for day meets anyway.
11. Next SU meeting
Julia will not be here; Mike will go instead and knock people’s heads together if/when needed.
12. Next meeting
Tuesday 4th March (provisionally) when Julia is back from Lochgilphead.
