President’s Report
1.1 Constitution and Safety Policy Alterations
· Summer Term no longer applies, so this needs to be changed.
· Trainers and Jeans on trips are dangerous, something should be included to help us clamp down on this, if there are no committee members on trips the driver should be told to refuse to take people who aren’t properly kitted out.
· There is some confusion over keys for the gear store. Currently we only have one and there seems to be some university issue with getting another one cut. This should be investigated.
· Safety responsibility. This is very important and needs addressing. We want to try to improve attendance at lectures perhaps by offering discounts on trips if people have attended or by changing the date to one more suitable.
· Overall there are several points in which the documents need updating and if club members have any suggestions they should get in touch with the committee. It will probably be changed at the slide show as this is the point at which there are most members of the club present.
1.2 Fresher’s Pack Alterations
· The safety statement should be included, possibly on the meets card.
· Things that are basic common sense should be removed as it wastes space and discourages people from reading other more important things.
· On the kit list kit that is important should be in bold and things that aren’t vital not in bold.
· A booklet will be produced.
1.3 Mountain Leadership/SPA
The idea is that we wish to give the club some extra assets so that it appeals to a wider audience. It must be emphasised that the intention is absolutely NOT to introduce competition. We may be able to get funding for this, but would have to be careful about what we offer (e.g. we cannot assess people).
1.4 Trip Prices
There will possibly be a revision of trip prices.
1.5 Sponsorship (e.g. Change of Pub)
· Braes; this is a possibility as they are intending to sponsor less clubs this year. However, they probably wouldn’t be able to regularly let us have the bottom room as they’re often busy.
· Droothies; if we use the downstairs room it will be reserved for us, if there is sufficient demand someone will be paid to man the downstairs bar. The guy was very keen and was proposing to offer us the sponsorship money in two instalments.
· Speedwells; despite the fact that some members of the club are very well settled into Speedwells it is off-putting for Freshers who find it hard to integrate themselves. It was recognised that a big advantage of Speedies is the lack of music.
· Nether Inn; the top floor might be quite good.
1.6 Fundraising
It was proposed that a group of people should climb the Law in fancy dress to raise money for the club.
1.7 Calendar/Wall Chart
It was decided that this should be free, A2, and given to Freshers, whoever is sponsoring us can have their name on it.
Vice-President’s Report
2.1 Conville Course
Contact has been made and we will get information about booking soon.
2.2 Winter Skills Lecture
This will be in November.
2.3 Navigation Lecture
This will be the week before the second day trip and older members will assist newer members to be autodidactic.
2.4 1st Aid
Date yet to be set
2.5 Avalanche Lecture
This will be just before the Winter Experience (Hopefully, a trainer is yet to be found.)
2.6 Pre-Winter Experience Winter Experience DVD
This should be shown again.
2.7 1st Aid Kits
These need to be renewed, Julia can get a discount where she’s working so she’ll get replacements. There should also be new rules introduced so that the kits are both used and maintained.
Meet’s Secretary
3.1 Huts
There are three more weekends to book in the middle of the 2nd Semester, the whole of the 1st is sorted. We have Strawberry cottage for the Fresher’s weekend and Alex Mac for Christmas. It’s becoming difficult to book places that are neither really obscure or a repetition of others.
Social Secretary
4.1 Ceilidh
This is booked for Fri 06/10/06 which is very early but there is no other option.
4.2 Sponsorship
There are a couple of other pubs to visit.
4.3 Clothes
There should be a few designs to show at the next meeting and the design will be the same for the whole year. These will be sold at the Fresher’s Fayre. The possibility of having an embroidered Dundee University logo as appose to a sticker will be looked into.
4.4 Christmas Dinner
We might have this at the rep and if we need to give provisional numbers early we’ll just use last years.
4.5 Burns’ Night
Possibly at the Apex, possibly at the Queen’s hotel and this year we’ll endeavour to have it on Burns’ Night.
Treasurer
5.1 Hut Deposits
There are no more to go out.
